Training
Rigorous monthly training sessions, presided over by the team’s mentor, a highly experienced and knowledgeable Paramedic with over 20 years service.
First Responders are fully equipped and
trained to respond to:
- Cardiac/respiratory arrests
- Chest pain/heart attacks
- Breathing difficulties
- Choking
- Epileptic fits
- Diabetic problems
- Strokes
- Head injuries
- Allergic reactions
- Burns
- Poisonings
- Abdominal pains
- Falls/back injuries
- Haemorrhages/lacerations
- Broken limbs
- Eye injuries
Medical equipment includes:
- Automatic external defibrillator
- Oxygen with normal face masks, and resuscitation ventilation kit
- Oro-pharyngeal airways
- Suction kit
- Pulse Oximeter (assesses pulse rate and blood oxygen levels)
- Blood pressure monitor
- Electronic thermometer
- Bandages and dressings
- Gel pads for the treatment of burns
- Medication for the treatment of heart attacks and diabetic
hypoglycaemic episodes
- Entonox (pain relief gas) for various types of pains and injuries
- Separate paediatric kit containing oxygen masks, airways and resuscitation kit
- Tough cut scissors
- Blankets
